From the late 19th century, this exceptional antique Sultanabad is truly one-of-a-kind. Dramatic in scale and soft in coloration, it sets the stage for the most memorable of interiors. The traditional design offers a bold and spacious pattern of ragged palmettes, straight vertical stems, and open lozenge reserves, while muted shades of terracotta, off-black, ivory, and indigo evoke a sophisticated, almost neutral palette. Single-family owned since the turn of the 20th century, the carpet was originally placed in a Horace Trumbauer estate in Philadelphia and, after receiving a minor restoration, is in excellent condition.
