3’4″ x 5′ New Persian Bijar Oriental Rug – Hand Made – 100% Wool This beautiful rug is brand new 3’4″ x 5′ Persian Bijar. This hand made Persian Bijar is made with a 100% wool. Bijar rugs (the ‘Iron Carpet of Persia’) are mainly woven by Kurds in Gerus and Afshar areas of Persia. These rugs are unique in that they use two wefts making the carpet extremely heavy, stiff and durable. A thicker weft is beaten down tightly between rows of knots alongside a thinner weft in order to make the pile compact, so thick and dense that it stands vertically, preventing it from lying down. Bijar rugs are exceptionally tough, however, they should not be folded for transportation (they should be rolled) to prevent the tight foundation from cracking. Foundation can be made of cotton, wool or camel wool depending on the age of the rug.

This marvelous Oriental rug is a fine 3’4″ x 5’1″ Persian Tabriz, circa 2000s. This hand knotted Persian Tabriz is made with wool and silk pile and is in good condition. Tabriz, located to the north-west, is Persia’s second oldest city and has been at the centre of the rug-making world for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. Most Tabriz rugs have a powerful red or blue with contrasting ivory background. Softer greens, blues and browns can be found in newer carpets to meet modern tastes and interiors. Tabriz is the host to some of the most beautiful rugs in the world and can have the price tag to match. In general the knots are fairly dense but can range anywhere between 120-850 knots per square inch (KPSI). The foundation is normally cotton with a wool pile in most cases.
